Taxco de Alarcon, originally named Tetelcingo; This colonial town is nested high in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Guerrero State in Mexico. The town was established in 1529 under the rule of Spain after exploration of the area proved it to be rich in tin, iron and silver. Prior to that time this area was ruled by the ancient Aztec Indians.

There are several active mines that produce some of the worlds finest silver. This tour takes you to the historical downtown area with it's narrow cobblestone and marble streets. You will visit Santa Prisca Cathedral and the home of Don Jose de la Borda, the man who paid for the Catherdral. You will witness 260 year old oil paintings, hand carved wood and stone archetecture and will take a 480 year step back into Mexico's past.

You will also enjoy a fantastic lunch at one of Taxco's finest local restaurants. Their Tortilla Soup is amazing.

The drive to Taxco is a pleasant journey through the Sierra Madre Mountains and lasts about 3 hours.
